Audi Victoria Week is Australia's largest keel boat regatta

21 – 26 January 2010

 

 

 

 

First held in 1844, it's also the oldest sporting event in Victoria. The event attracts in excess of 450 yachts and over 4,500 competitors, with thousands of spectators coming along to enjoy the festivities. Held annually over the Australia Day long weekend, this is a ‘must do’ event.

The Audi Victoria Week program commences in Melbourne with the Docklands Invitational and the King of the Docklands, prior to the fleet setting sail for Corio Bay in the historic Melbourne to Geelong passage race. The free program of activities includes live entertainment, roving performers, food and wine, art and craft markets, a free ‘come try sailing’ program, the Bay FM fireworks spectacular and lots more along the Geelong waterfront.

 

Docklands Invitational: Thursday 21 – Friday 22


The Docklands Invitational kicks off the Audi Victoria Week program. Based in the emerging Melbourne Docklands, the invite only IRC series is limited to a maximum fleet of twenty. Invitations are extended to the world’s best performed IRC yachts - previous winners include: Quantum Racing (NSW), Beau Geste (Hong Kong) and Loki (NSW). King of the Docklands: Thursday 21 – Friday 22


The King of the Docklands is a sailing version of 20/20 cricket. A level playing field, ultimate bragging rights and one of the richest prizes in Australian sailing are the ingredients that make this event a program highlight. Divisional winners from the previous year come together in one design Dart SB3 sailboats for a winner take all, knock out competition. Staged on a micro course within the confinements of Victoria Harbour (Melbourne Docklands) - crews battle fluky winds and a pressure cooker environment for the right to become King of the Docklands. Spectators will enjoy race commentary explaining the unfolding tactical side of the sport from specially constructed marquees offering the perfect vantage point. International One Metre Challenge: Thursday 21 – Friday 22


If you would like to experience sailing, but prefer dry land then this is your chance! Radio controlled yacht racing featuring the leading International One Metre Class. Competition is open to those aged 15 and over. Take the challenge and pit your skills against the best. Round Robin Series commences 1600 each day, register on the day.

 

Go Sailing: Thursday 21 – Friday 22


The Docklands Yacht Club invite you to ‘go sailing’ in their fleet of award winning Access Dinghies. The very popular program will operate within Victoria Harbour, Docklands. Participants can test the waters and give sailing a go with a qualified instructor. It’s a free lesson for all and will operate daily from 1600.
